But the<span class=\"caps\">RCMP<\/span>\u00a0has a different take. A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmog.ca\/2015\/02\/17\/leaked-internal-rcmp-document-names-anti-petroleum-extremists-threat-government-industry\" target=\"_blank\">secret report by the national police force<\/a>, obtained by Greenpeace, both minimizes the threat of global warming and conjures a spectre of threats posed by people who rightly call for sanity in dealing with problems caused by burning fossil\u00a0fuels.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">RCMP<\/span>\u00a0report has come to light as federal politicians debate\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thewalrus.ca\/bill-c-51-the-good-the-bad-and-the-truly-ugly\/\" target=\"_blank\">the \u201canti-terrorism\u201d Bill C-51<\/a>. Although the act wouldn\u2019t apply to \u201clawful advocacy, protest, dissent and artistic expression,\u201d its language echoes the tone of the\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">RCMP<\/span>report. It would give massive new powers to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service to prevent any person or group from \u201cundermining the security of Canada,\u201d including \u201cinterference with critical infrastructure\u201d and the \u201ceconomic or financial stability of Canada.\u201d And it would seriously\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/globe-debate\/how-ottawas-new-terrorism-act-could-chill-free-speech\/article22799859\/\" target=\"_blank\">infringe on freedom of speech and expression<\/a>. The new\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">CSIS<\/span>\u00a0powers would\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ottawacitizen.com\/news\/politics\/spy-agencys-review-group-cant-perform-oversight-role\" target=\"_blank\">lack necessary public oversight<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">RCMP<\/span>\u00a0report specifically names Greenpeace, Tides Canada and the Sierra Club as part of \u201ca growing, highly organized and well-financed anti-Canada petroleum movement that consists of peaceful activists, militants and violent extremists who are opposed to society\u2019s reliance on fossil fuels.\u201d The report downplays climate change, calling it a \u201cperceived environmental threat\u201d and saying members of the \u201cinternational anti-Canadian petroleum movement \u2026 claim that climate change is now the most serious global environmental threat and that climate change is a direct consequence of elevated anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions which, reportedly, are directly linked to the continued use of fossil fuels.\u201d It also makes numerous references to anti-petroleum and indigenous\u00a0\u201cextremists\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let\u2019s Not Sacrifice Freedom Out Of Fear A scientist, or any knowledgeable person, will tell you climate change is a serious threat for Canada and the world.
