Bulk-buying habits were never a thing with the modern consumer in a pre-COVID world, but now\u00a0<strong>&#8216;prepping&#8217; has gone mainstream<\/strong>\u00a0two years since the beginning of the virus pandemic as supply chains remain snarled and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/commodities\/largest-uk-supermarket-warns-worst-has-yet-come-amid-food-inflation-crisis\">food inflation is out-of-control<\/a>. Many have discovered:\u00a0<strong><em>be prepared or be hungry.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The pandemic was an eye-opener for tens of millions of consumers who learned the government and big corporations wouldn&#8217;t take care of them when things go south. Even our elected officials were nowhere to be found in the early days of the pandemic when people\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/meanwhile-costco-brooklyn-hoarding-begins?commentId=5e5b40bca97b4f00197c0d3e\">panic hoarded food<\/a>\u00a0at supermarkets and fought over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/health\/costco-runs-out-toilet-paper-wont-have-more-centuries\">toilet paper<\/a>\u00a0in a &#8216;free for all battle royale&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/two-years-into-pandemic-shoppers-are-still-hoarding-11644253233\">WSJ<\/a>\u00a0interviewed consumers across the country who&#8217;ve expressed their purchasing habits have changed.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Bulk-buying habit is expected to stick as people eat more at home, supply remains uncertain and inflation rears up. Retailers and producers are shifting operations as a result,&#8221; WSJ said.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Alexis Abell, a 41yo mother of five, buys in bulk out of fear of economic uncertainty.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>&#8220;I don&#8217;t want to be in a position again where I can&#8217;t get something,&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>Abell said, who was laid off in 2020 and decided not to return to work.
