*\u00a0\u00a0Egg substitutions.<\/b>\u00a0 I have some dehydrated eggs stored, and have even used them to make scrambled eggs once (they were pretty good actually).\u00a0 But in this article by \u201cI Am Baker\u201d she experiments with 4 types of egg substitutions:\u00a0\u00a0{4 OPTIONS!} Egg Substitutes \u2013 i am baker<\/a>\u00a0 I was surprised to see seltzer water on that list.\u00a0 Seems like that would be an easy and cheap alternative.<\/p>\n

*\u00a0 Every December, I buy\u00a0new baking soda and baking powder<\/b>.\u00a0 When I checked the \u201cuse by\u201d dates on the old baking powder, it was \u201cuse by Oct, 2021\u201d.\u00a0 It was only about 1\/2 empty.\u00a0 I don\u2019t always go by those dates, but baking powder and baking soda DO lose their effectiveness over time \u2013 usually about a year.\u00a0 Luckily they are inexpensive, so I don\u2019t mind tossing the old one and paying $.89 for a new one.\u00a0 My daughter and I were talking about it once, and she never even buys baking powder.\u00a0 But I\u2019m always thinking WHAT IF. Baking powder is a must for homemade pancakes, waffles, and quick breads.<\/p>\n

So, this is a good time to repurchase and start the new year fresh.<\/p>\n

*\u00a0 I got an advertisement for a\u00a0\u201cHealing Garden\u201d<\/b>\u00a0today in the mail.\u00a0\u00a0Healing Herbs Garden Kit<\/a><\/p>\n

Many of these herbs I\u2019ve bought online, usually dried.\u00a0 Some of them I\u2019ve tried growing myself, although I\u2019m still not very good at it.\u00a0 Growing herbs and flowers is different from growing vegetables.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good variety, however, and includes echinacea, calendula, marshmallow, mint, chamomile, lavender, and yarrow (among other things).\u00a0 I grew yarrow once and even used it to make a\"Lavender\u00a0salve.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s surprising how many of these flower seeds suggest planting them in the winter, then waiting for them to come up in the spring.<\/p>\n
