However, the energy collectors are not renewable.<\/p>\n<p id=\"eaaf\" class=\"kf kg dn bn kh ki kj ex kk kl km fa kn fb ko fd kp fe kq fg kr fh ks fj kt dt et\"><strong class=\"bz\">Solar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"9a25\" class=\"jj jk dn jl b ev po jn jo ey pp jq jr js pq ju jv jw pr jy jz ka ps kc kd ke df et\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Solar panels must be replaced every 30 to 40 years because solar panels degrade efficiency by about 1% per year. If we covered the entire state of Arizona with solar panels, they would produce enough electricity to power the world at our current level of demand \u2014 but they would have to be replaced every 30\u201340 years.<\/p>\n<p id=\"d3f8\" class=\"jj jk dn jl b ev jm jn jo ey jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke df et\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Presently one US company has a recycling program for their solar panels. The cost of recycling is $20 to $30 per panel. Taking the panels to the nearest landfill cost only $1 to $2 per panel. In addition to the devastating waste produced by solar panels, they are manufactured from finite materials found under the Earth \u2014 limited materials whose mining disrupts and poisons the ecosystem.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pt pu pv\">\n<p id=\"602b\" class=\"jj jk mb jl b ev jm jn jo ey jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke df et\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">By 2050, the International Renewable Energy Agency projects that up to 78 million metric tons of solar panels will have reached the end of their life, and that the world will be generating\u00a0<strong class=\"jl pw\">about 6 million metric tons<\/strong>\u00a0of new solar e-waste annually \u2014\u00a0<a class=\"bt ji\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/solar-panels-are-starting-to-die-leaving-behind-toxic-trash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">WIRED<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"684d\" class=\"jj jk dn jl b ev jm jn jo ey jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc kd ke df et\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><a class=\"bt ji\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/~\/media\/McKinsey\/Industries\/Electric%20Power%20and%20Natural%20Gas\/Our%20Insights\/Plugging%20in%20What%20electrification%20can%20do%20for%20industry\/Plugging-in-What-electrification-can-do-for-industry-vF.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">Over half of the industrial processes<\/a>\u00a0involving heat cannot be performed by electricity. Electricity alone can not produce the high temperatures necessary. The hottest industrial operations performed by electricity are limited to 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit.
