In response, there was an organized and somewhat successful effort by progressive climate-renewables activists to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/michaelshellenberger.substack.com\/p\/why-were-winning\" rel=\"\">cut off our funding<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShellenbergerMD\/status\/1280598424174292992?s=20\" rel=\"\">censor us on Facebook<\/a>, and prevent me from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/quillette.com\/2020\/07\/29\/why-democrats-are-trying-to-shut-me-up-about-climate-change-and-renewables\/\" rel=\"\">testifying before Congress<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But now, one of the biggest boosters of natural gas and renewables, media giant\u00a0<em>Bloomberg<\/em>, whose owner, Michael Bloomberg,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/michaelshellenberger.substack.com\/p\/the-real-threat-to-banks-isnt-from?r=f96qu&amp;utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=web&amp;utm_source=twitter\" rel=\"\">is directly invested in natural gas and renewables<\/a>, has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-01-04\/europe-s-energy-supply-crisis-has-the-eu-at-the-mercy-of-putin-and-the-weather\" rel=\"\">published<\/a> an article conceding and substantiating almost every single point we have made over the years. \u201cEurope Sleepwalked Into an Energy Crisis That Could Last Years,\u201d screams the headline. The article concludes that the crisis was \u201cyears in the making\u201d because Europe is \u201cshutting down coal-fired electricity plants and increasing its reliance on renewables.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Bloomberg<\/em>\u00a0still pulls its punches and misdescribes the situation in some ways. The article, like many other\u00a0<em>Bloomberg<\/em>\u00a0articles, mislabels the deployment of renewables as an \u201cenergy transition\u201d similar to past transitions from wood to coal and coal to natural gas, failing to acknowledge that the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/michaelshellenberger\/2019\/05\/06\/the-reason-renewables-cant-power-modern-civilization-is-because-they-were-never-meant-to\/?sh=46a3a021ea2b\" rel=\"\">poor physics of energy-dilute renewables<\/a>\u00a0make that impossible.
