The Clouds Have Cleared in 2021, and What We Are Seeing Is a Dystopian 2022<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

This year was a doozy. Right out of the gate, millionaires were sounding the alarm that the markets were looking overvalued while reducing their risk exposure.<\/p>\n

In February we got a taste of what could be the \u201cend game\u201d for the U.S. dollar as we saw it lose more of its grip as global reserve currency. Of course, it won\u2019t collapse overnight because market psychology is still\u00a0propping it up<\/a>\u00a0(for now).<\/p>\n

But three big major economic influences have made 2021 one to remember. This chaotic \u201ctrifecta of market turbulence\u201d kept the media busy and retirement savers on the edge of their seats.<\/p>\n

So without further ado, let\u2019s dive into the first one\u2026<\/p>\n

The confused Fed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Back in 2019 when the repo markets started going crazy, we reported how the Fed\u2019s \u201cconfused\u201d response only added fuel to a fire that continued to burn into\u00a0this<\/em>\u00a0year.<\/p>\n

And this year, one word you might have heard coming from Powell\u2019s mouth with nauseating frequency to describe rising inflation was\u00a0\u201ctransitory.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Over and over again, Powell\u2019s confused Fed kept downplaying inflation\u2026<\/p>\n

Until it was obvious to everybody that inflation wasn\u2019t transitory any longer. When Senator Pat Toomey challenged Powell during an appearance before Congress, the Fed chairman was forced to\u00a0change his tune<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Powell explained that while the word has \u201cdifferent meanings to different people,\u201d the Federal Reserve \u201ctend to use it to mean that it won\u2019t leave a permanent mark in the form of higher inflation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s \u2014 it\u2019s probably a good time to retire that word and try to explain more clearly what we mean,\u201d Powell added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
