G-7 Warns Russia of \u2018Massive Consequences\u2019 of Ukraine Incursion<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

The Group of Seven (G-7) major industrialized countries warned\u00a0Russia<\/a>\u00a0on Dec. 12 that any invasion of\u00a0Ukraine<\/a>\u00a0would have \u201cmassive consequences\u201d and would incur \u201ca severe cost.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement issued after a two-day summit held in the English city of Liverpool, G-7 foreign ministers said they were \u201cunited in [their] condemnation of Russia\u2019s military build-up and aggressive rhetoric towards Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n

The foreign policy chiefs from the United States, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the European Union, called on Russia to \u201cdeescalate, pursue diplomatic channels, and abide by its international commitments on transparency of military activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAny use of force to change borders is strictly prohibited under international law,\u201d they said. \u201cRussia should be in no doubt that further military aggression against Ukraine would have massive consequences and severe cost in response.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe reaffirm our unwavering commitment to Ukraine\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the right of any sovereign state to determine its own future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss told a press conference that the G-7 allies have \u201csent a very clear united message to [Russian President]\u00a0Vladimir Putin<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Truss said the UK is considering \u201call options\u201d including economic sanctions in response to potential Russian aggression.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the UK has wanted to send clear messages and achieve clear goals, we have been prepared to use economic sanctions. So we are considering all options,\u201d she told reporters.<\/p>\n
