Chair Powell himself reinforced those expectations in recent testimony, stopping just shy of unilaterally announcing the faster taper.\u00a0<strong>Crucially, he noted this CPI print and the evolution of the virus were potential roadblocks to a faster taper next week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And sure enough, CPI printed +6.8% YoY &#8211; right as expected and the fastest rate of increase since 1982&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2021-12-10_05-31-02.jpg?itok=nc3fxUcR\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2021-12-10_05-31-02.jpg?itok=nc3fxUcR\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/2021-12-10_05-31-02.jpg?itok=nc3fxUcR\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"306\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"556f986b-1596-4e48-8459-381575eac00a\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"Advert_desktop__1J5vD Advert_tablet__3QEBr Advert_mobile__1rlLc Advert_placement__1I4yb Advert_align__N0_fw\">\n<p>Core CPI &#8211; stripping out everything you spend money on every day &#8211; rose at 4.9% YoY &#8211; its highest level since 1991&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2021-12-10_05-33-27.jpg?itok=cyDw3wM4\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2021-12-10_05-33-27.jpg?itok=cyDw3wM4\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/2021-12-10_05-33-27.jpg?itok=cyDw3wM4\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"305\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"33baf925-5804-4ebb-87c2-7ad12ef2275d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>In another blow for team transitory, the drivers of inflation were increasingly broad-based,<\/strong>\u00a0rather than just in a few categories affected by the pandemic. Under the hood, everything rose in price&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202021-12-10T054054.428.png?itok=6QtRuyw3\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202021-12-10T054054.428.png?itok=6QtRuyw3\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/image%20-%202021-12-10T054054.428.png?itok=6QtRuyw3\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"297\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"2dc49dd2-cad6-4430-b286-aa4bbb44f358\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The shelter index increased 0.5 percent over the month, as the indexes for rent and owners\u2019 equivalent rent both rose 0.4 percent; these increases were the same as in October.\u00a0<strong>Nov Shelter inflation rose 3.84% Y\/Y, up from 3.38% in October and Nov Rent inflation jumped 3.05% Y\/Y, up from 2.70% in October.\u00a0<\/strong>The index for lodging away from home rose 2.9 percent in November after rising 1.4 percent in October.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202021-12-10T054249.314.png?itok=vTs-Saw5\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202021-12-10T054249.314.png?itok=vTs-Saw5\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/image%20-%202021-12-10T054249.314.png?itok=vTs-Saw5\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"291\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"666dd287-1de0-44a0-9864-1fc4de1278eb\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vehicle indexes also continued to rise in November.\u00a0<\/strong>The index for used cars and trucks rose 2.5 percent over the month, the same\u00a0 increase as in October.
