Kyla Mandel investigates where this definition actually came\u00a0from.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The definition of hydraulic fracturing adopted by the<span class=\"caps\">UK<\/span>\u00a0coalition government has all the hallmarks of industry influence, finds\u00a0<em>DeSmog\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">UK<\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The fracking definition was slipped into the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmog.uk\/2015\/02\/12\/fracking-go-ahead-national-parks-controversial-infrastructure-act-becomes-law\">controversial Infrastructure Act<\/a>\u00a0without a chance for<span class=\"caps\">MP<\/span>s to vote on it. And it is almost identical to that<a href=\"http:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/PDF\/?uri=CELEX:32014H0070&amp;from=EN\" target=\"_blank\">recommended by the European Commission<\/a>\u00a0in January\u00a02014.<\/p>\n<p>However, both of these definitions are based solely on the volume of fluid used during fracking and are closely aligned with the shale gas industry\u2019s specific definition of hydraulic\u00a0fracturing.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"quo\">\u2018<\/span>Political\u00a0Definition\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Antoine Simon, extractive industries campaigner at Friends of the Earth Europe, said: \u201cLong story short, this is a political definition of fracking, but surely not a scientific\u00a0one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">EU<\/span>\u00a0Recommendation \u2018high-volume hydraulic fracturing\u2019 means: \u201cinjecting 1,000 m3 or more of water per fracturing stage or 10,000 m3 or more of water during the entire fracturing process into a\u00a0well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>David Cameron&#8217;s New Definition of Fracking \u2018Political Not Scientific\u2019 Last week,\u00a0DeSmog\u00a0UK\u00a0revealed\u00a0how David Cameron\u2019s government snuck a new definition of fracking onto the statute books.
