While the media declares the notion of \u2018climate lockdowns\u2019 to be a fake news \u201cconspiracy theory,\u201d India is preparing to impose a climate lockdown to reduce pollution.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, really.<\/p>\n

NPR<\/a>\u00a0reports the details of the lockdown under the headline \u2018New Delhi\u2019s air pollution is so bad, officials are calling for a citywide lockdown\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndia\u2019s Supreme Court is calling for a lockdown in the capital, New Delhi. It\u2019s because of a health emergency, but it\u2019s not about COVID-19. It\u2019s about air pollution,\u201d states the piece.<\/p>\n

Authorities are set to ban all nonessential travel on roads in the national capital region while ordering tens of millions of people to work from home.<\/p>\n

Construction sites are also closing along with schools, many of which only recently opened after the COVID-19 lockdown.<\/p>\n

Delhi\u2019s chief minister is also calling on neighboring states to impose similar measures.<\/p>\n
