White House Putting Pressure on OPEC to Increase Oil Production Amid \u2018Supply Issues,\u2019 Rising Energy Prices<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

The White House<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday promised to put pressure on members of the\u00a0Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to increase production amid declining supplies and rising energy prices.<\/p>\n

Press secretary\u00a0Jen Psaki<\/a>\u00a0told reports at a press briefing that the president is \u201cmindful\u201d of the increased prices consumers are facing when it comes to their energy bills and that he \u201creserves a range of options,\u201d to combat the situation.<\/p>\n

Psaki said the administration is focusing on raising its concern with \u201csupply issues as it relates to oil\u201d on the international stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a power of the president of the United States engaging on that front,\u201d she said. \u201cThat issue has been raised at [national security adviser Jake Sullivan\u2019s] level, at a range of levels throughout government, but certainly the supply \u2026 and putting additional pressure on OPEC is something that certainly our national security team will continue to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

The administration is \u201cconcerned\u201d over\u00a0the high\u00a0gas prices<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0has asked the\u00a0Federal Trade Commission<\/a>\u00a0(FTC) to investigate the matter, Psaki said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will also note that as it relates to gas prices, we remain concerned about trends we have seen where even as supply has increased at times over the last several months, we\u2019ve still seen heightened prices,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve asked the FTC to look into that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jerry Simmons, president of the Domestic Energy Producer Alliance (DEPA), has\u00a0blamed Biden administration<\/a>\u00a0policies for hindering U.S.\u00a0oil and gas<\/a>\u00a0companies from producing\u00a0energy commodities, and securing American\u00a0energy independence<\/a>\u00a0and lower prices for American families.<\/p>\n
