Sshh, don\u2019t tell anyone. In my other life, I\u2019m a musician. I\u2019m lucky enough to be working with a vocalist who many of you\u2019ve probably heard of. Her voice is magic. It\u2019ll give you goosebumps and chills when she sings. After a few songs together, I scratched my head.\u00a0Nothing\u00a0<\/em>I could do in the computer, in the studio, could improve that magical voice. So we thought: what we should do was buy a really good microphone and amplifiers that suited this set of songs especially. Off I went \u2014 and\u00a0little did I know<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I looked, and looked, and looked. Sold out \u2014\u00a0everywhere<\/em>. Not one to be found. They hadn\u2019t made any for three months,\u00a0six\u00a0<\/em>months. ETA?\u00a0Nobody could say<\/em>. I scratched my head again. Now what? Meanwhile, outside her house, in London, people were \u201cbrawling<\/a>\u201d \u2014 that\u2019s polite British-speak for \u201crioting\u201d \u2014\u00a0over gas<\/em>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a tiny slice of life right about now. What\u2019s it made of?\u00a0Shortages<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0Here are just a few of the things \u2014 simple things \u2014 I\u2019ve tried to buy. Sorry, no luck. A desk \u2014\u00a0lumber\u2019s in short suppl<\/a>y. Electronics \u2014 chips are famously in shortage. A car \u2014\u00a0good luck with that<\/a>. Some basic studio stuff \u2014 an amplifier. Who knows when they\u2019re even going to resume production?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just me, because it can\u2019t be. Shortages are so widespread now that, like I said, they\u2019re \u201cbrawling\u201d in London over gas. Meanwhile, they can\u2019t get milk,\u00a0vials for blood tests<\/a>. There\u2019s talk of energy shortages this winter. In America, it\u2019s cars and gadgets and computers.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, things have changed. It\u2019s not the same anymore. Welcome to the End of the\u00a0<\/strong>Age of Cheap Stuff<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
