It\u2019s all happening\u2026..<\/a><\/h3>\n

Anyone who has been following this blog long enough will know that I predicted 2020 was crunch time and that we were heading into the mother of all energy crises. As I write,\u00a0the UK<\/a>\u00a0is in deep turmoil,\u00a0Germany<\/a>\u00a0is making contingency plans for blackouts,\u00a0Lebanon<\/a>\u00a0has turned power off,\u00a0China\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0rationing electricity and\u00a0India<\/a>\u00a0is doing the same. Low rainfall in\u00a0Scandinavia<\/a>\u00a0has resulted in diminished hydroelectric power output (that will probably impact the UK if Norway is unable to send electricity down the new North Sea cable), and this is happening in\u00a0South America\u00a0<\/a>and the West of the USA where speculation of the\u00a0grid going down<\/a>\u00a0this winter is going rife.\u00a0South Africa<\/a>\u00a0is also in trouble\u2026.. It\u2019s hard to not feel like it\u2019s all happening\u2026..<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some of us have long understood that the economy is an energy system, and is\u00a0not<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 as orthodox economics insists \u2013 wholly a financial one.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve identified credit and monetary\u00a0adventurism<\/em>\u00a0as futile efforts to deny this reality, efforts which, whilst not \u2018fixing\u2019 low and reversing \u201cgrowth\u201d, have exacerbated financial risk by driving a wedge between the \u2018real\u2019 economy of goods and services and the \u2018financial\u2019 economy of money and credit.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve highlighted relentless rises in ECoEs (the Energy Costs of Energy) as the process by which expansion in economic output peters out, and prior growth in prosperity goes into reverse.<\/p>\n
