It\u2019s not just me. It\u2019s probably you, too. Have you noticed that it\u2019s starting to be hard to just\u2026get stuff? If you\u2019ve tried buying a car lately, you might have observed that even\u00a0used car prices have climbed<\/a>\u00a0to relatively astronomical levels. The same is beginning to hold true for good after good \u2014 from\u00a0electronics<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0energy<\/a>. What\u2019s going on here?<\/p>\n

I have some bad news, and I have some\u2026well\u2026worse news. We\u2019re at the beginning of of an era in economic history that\u2019ll probably come to be known as the Great Inflation.<\/p>\n

Prices are going to rise, probably exponentially, over the course of the next few decades.<\/strong>\u00a0The reason for that\u2019s simple: everything, more or less, has been artificially cheap. The costs of everything from carbon to fascism to ecological collapse to social fracture haven\u2019t been factored in \u2014 ever, from the beginning of the industrial age. But that age is now\u00a0coming to a sudden, climactic, explosive end<\/a>. The problem is that, well, we\u2019re standing in the way.<\/p>\n

Let me explain, with an example. I was looking for a microphone for a singer I\u2019m working with. I was shocked to read that a well-know German microphone company had just\u2026stopped making them. And furloughed all its workers. It didn\u2019t say why \u2014 but it didn\u2019t need to. The reason\u2019s obvious. Steel prices are rising, and they\u2019re going to to keep rising, because energy prices are rising. Then there\u2019s the by now infamous \u201cchip shortage,<\/a>\u201d chips they probably rely on, too. Add all that up, and bang \u2014 you\u2019ve got an historic company suddenly imploding.<\/p>\n
