class=\"entry\">\n<p>If an energy policy sounds too good to be true, that is usually because it is.\u00a0 Take, for example, just one of the jigsaw pieces in current policy for reaching net zero by 2050: electric car batteries.\u00a0 Jillian Ambrose \u2013 who should know better \u2013 at the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2021\/sep\/04\/electric-cars-ofgem-plans-easier-way-for-drivers-to-sell-energy-back-to-grid?fbclid=IwAR2vBjRypmQ6aNhZ5LFLudSPe_sk93uzZe6WgfIUKmWusGjS4F10XV7fLOI\">Guardian<\/a><\/em>\u00a0reports this weekend that:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOfgem plans to make it easier for electric vehicle drivers to sell the energy stored in their car batteries back to power grid as part of a move to help make the switch away from fossil fuel cars more affordable.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cUnder the plan put forward by Great Britain\u2019s energy regulator, electric vehicle drivers could earn money by effectively transforming their cars into mobile power plants by releasing power back to the energy network when demand on the electricity grid reaches a peak.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIf enough drivers take up the chance to make money from their car batteries by using vehicle-to-grid technology, the UK could avoid investing in new power plants with the equivalent generation capacity of up to 10 large nuclear power stations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is wishful thinking on steroids.\u00a0 While it is true that if all of the UK\u2019s 37 million cars were replaced with battery electric cars, and assuming that all were fitted with a mid-range \u2013 98KW -battery, they could provide 3,100GW of power to the grid \u2013 just shy of the 3,200GW from 10 nuclear plants \u2013\u00a0<em>they could only do it for about an hour<\/em>.\u00a0 A battery is not a\u00a0<em>source<\/em>\u00a0of power, it is merely a storage medium.\u00a0 For comparison, a recent report the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manhattan-institute.org\/green-energy-revolution-near-impossible\">Manhattan Institute<\/a><\/em>\u00a0finds that:<\/p>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read
