{"id":59186,"date":"2021-09-01T12:14:55","date_gmt":"2021-09-01T17:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=59186"},"modified":"2021-09-01T12:14:55","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T17:14:55","slug":"exergy-driven-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=59186","title":{"rendered":"Exergy-driven crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-cover-head\">\n<div class=\"single-post-thumb single-has-thumb\">\n<div class=\"post-cover-title\">\n<h3 class=\"name post-title entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consciousnessofsheep.co.uk\/2021\/08\/30\/exergy-driven-crisis\/\">Exergy-driven crisis<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content post-cover\">\n<article id=\"the-post\" class=\"post-listing post-6717 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail  category-economy\">\n<div class=\"post-inner\">\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>Media has little in the way of memory and the rest of us struggle to remember much of what happened more than a week ago.\u00a0 And so, the narratives we use in an attempt to make sense of the rapidly changing world we are living in, tend to revolve around short-term tribal talking points.\u00a0 Take, for example, the narrative about Britain having a shortage of lorry drivers.\u00a0 It tends to be a very short narrative: Britain left the European Union, European lorry drivers went home, Britain has a lorry driver shortage.\u00a0 Ergo \u201cBrexit Bad!\u201d\u00a0 Unfortunately, there are more holes than a Swiss cheese in this narrative.\u00a0 To begin with, driver shortages\u00a0<em>Across Europe<\/em>\u00a0were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/RegData\/etudes\/etudes\/join\/2009\/419101\/IPOL-TRAN_ET(2009)419101_EN.pdf\">observable<\/a>\u00a0to anyone paying attention more than a decade ago:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe study provides a concise overview of the road freight transport sector, in the light of the structural issue of qualified driver shortage.
