decades\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/views\/2021\/08\/17\/we-cant-let-pro-war-generals-who-lied-about-afghanistan-war-define-its-legacy\">continue<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/discourseblog.com\/afghanistan-withdrawal-media-coverage\/\">peddle fantasies<\/a>\u00a0in the midst of a Taliban\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2021\/08\/15\/after-20-years-lies-and-war-us-retreat-underway-taliban-retake-control-afghanistan\">takeover<\/a>\u00a0and American\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2021\/08\/16\/five-people-reportedly-killed-amid-mayhem-kabul-airport\">evacuation<\/a>\u00a0of Kabul, progressive critics on Tuesday reminded the world who has benefited from the \u201cendless war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEntrenching U.S. forces in Afghanistan was the military-industrial complex\u2019s business plan for 20+ years,\u201d\u00a0<a Public Citizen highlighted returns on defense stocks over the past 20 years \u2014 as calculated in a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bhaviklathia\/status\/1427406404621672454\">jaw-dropping<\/a>\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2021\/08\/16\/afghanistan-war-defense-stocks\/\">analysis<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0<em>The Intercept\u00a0<\/em>\u2014 and asserted that \u201cthe military-industrial examined returns on stocks of the five biggest defense contractors: Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>Schwarz found that a $10,000 investment in stock evenly split across those five companies on the day in 2001 that then-President Georg W.
