The water was incredibly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/m.startribune.com\/drought-deepens-in-minnesota-watering-bans-more-likely\/600079241\/?fbclid=IwAR1RWmRstzdEfsNZ5GWGOQEeXeu3ZC9g9k5L5xGRLBxRz2brGlIg4fvYRb4\">low from the drought<\/a>, and in parts the river bed was completely dry \u2014 all of which she would report to the Army Corps of Engineers with the hope of stopping the Canadian corporation Enbridge from drilling under Middle River to install the controversial Line 3 pipeline. Enbridge had already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2021\/07\/13\/mpca-investigating-fluid-spill-on-line3-construction\">polluted the Willow River\u00a0<\/a>while trying to install the pipeline, an accident\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/community-voices\/2021\/07\/line-3-spills-reveal-poor-oversight\/\">discovered by water protectors and reported to regulators<\/a>. Beaulieu explained on Facebook Live that the company is supposed to stop pumping water\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fb.watch\/76IofxYEh5\/\">when the river level is below a foot and a half<\/a>, but Enbridge was not complying.<\/p>\n<p>As Beaulieu recorded her findings, 40 people from the Red Lake Treaty Camp took up positions on the bridge, chanting and holding signs, the largest of which said, \u201cHonor the Old Crossing Treaty of 1863,\u201d which gives people of the Red Lake Nation the right to sustain themselves through fishing on the region\u2019s rivers, as well as hunting and performing ceremony there.
