Change the Definition of Fracking.<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>David Cameron\u2019s government has snuck a new definition of fracking onto the statute books\u00a0\u2013\u00a0allowing hydraulic fracturing for shale gas to take place outside the new regulatory\u00a0regime.<\/p>\n<p>Cuadrilla\u2019s exploratory fracking, which caused\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-lancashire-13599161\">two earthquakes in 2011<\/a>\u00a0at Preese Hall in Lancashire, would not be classified as hydraulic fracturing under the new official definition set out in the\u00a0controversial<a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2015\/7\/contents\/enacted\">Infrastructure Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Doug Parr, chief scientist at Greenpeace\u00a0UK\u00a0said: \u201cThe shift in fracking definition illustrates again how desperate Government is to get fracking moving despite the problems and\u00a0opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>DeSmog\u00a0UK<\/em>\u00a0is the first to report on how the government appears to have rendered its own regulation of fracking useless, as the late changes made to the Infastructure Bill have gone\u00a0unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new Infrastructure Act, shale gas exploration and extraction must involve more than a total 10,000 cubic metres of fluid in order to be defined as hydraulic\u00a0fracturing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last-Minute\u00a0Addition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parr added: \u201cHaving failed to win the argument at public level and with major oil companies saying it will be no big deal, Government is left conjuring up new definitions to help steamroller unwanted, risky and irresponsible fossil fuel exploitation onto the British\u00a0countryside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How Can Cameron Stop Fracking Causing Earthquakes?
