\u201cYou don\u2019t seriously think\u2026civilization\u2026is going to\u2026collapse? Do you? LOL! Dude!! Here, have a beer!\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s a question I get asked these days, sometimes angrily, sometimes mockingly, sometimes like I\u2019m crazy \u2014 rarely seriously. My answer \u2014 said as gently as I can \u2014 tends to go something like this.<\/p>\n

What exactly do you imagine \u201ccivilizational collapse\u201d is? This strange, sci-fi term you might be hearing more and more, by overly concerned and earnest people like\u2026well\u2026me? Maybe you think, having watched too many Hollywood movies, and enjoyed them, like me, that it\u2019s 2012 meets the Purge by way of Noah. Hold on \u2014 but isn\u2019t reality far outpacing fiction these days?<\/p>\n

What does a \u201ccivilizational collapse\u201d look like? It looks like this. Here and now. It\u2019s staring you right in the face.\u00a0<\/strong>What a civilizational collapse looks like is beginning to happen already. America, China, India, Australia, Britain \u2014 it\u2019s happening everywhere, in every way, too, economic, political, social, cultural, and ecological. Life as you and I think of it will never go back to anything that we still wrongly consider \u201cnormal.\u201d And yet most of us go on as if\u2026it will.<\/p>\n

The last couple of years. That\u2019s civilizational collapse. At least the beginnings of it.<\/strong>\u00a0A global pandemic made worse by our\u00a0nationalism, selfishness, and incompetence<\/a>. A fascist political movement in America that shows\u00a0no signs of slowing down<\/a>. A working class that seems to be\u00a0rejecting democracy,<\/a>\u00a0almost worldwide. China with a million \u2014 or maybe three, who really knows? \u2014 in concentration camps. Billionaires\u00a0getting richer<\/a>\u00a0during a pandemic \u2014 who could\u00a0easily pay to vaccinate the world, but don\u2019t lift a finger.<\/a> Need I go on? …<\/p>\n
