{"id":5834,"date":"2015-02-19T06:40:31","date_gmt":"2015-02-19T11:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5834"},"modified":"2015-02-19T06:40:31","modified_gmt":"2015-02-19T11:40:31","slug":"geoengineering-is-being-pushed-by-politicians-and-scientists-but-it-may-do-more-harm-than-good","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5834","title":{"rendered":"Geoengineering Is Being Pushed By Politicians and Scientists \u2026 But It May Do MORE HARM THAN GOOD"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2015\/02\/geoengineering.html\" target=\"_blank\">Geoengineering Is Being Pushed By Politicians and Scientists \u2026 But It May Do MORE HARM THAN GOOD<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Scientists Suggested Melting the Arctic Ice Cap to Stop a New Ice Age<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Proposals to use geoengineering to fight global warming are\u00a0<a title=\"in the news\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=geoengineering&amp;ie=utf-8&amp;oe=utf-8#q=geoengineering&amp;tbm=nws\" target=\"_blank\">in the news<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Indeed, humans have been intentionally modifying weather for climate control\u00a0<a title=\"for decades\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2011\/01\/humans-have-intentionally-modified-weather-for-military-purposes-and-climate-control-for-decades.html\">for decades<\/a>.\u00a0 But geoengineering has not always been thought of as a way to fight global\u00a0<em>warming\u00a0<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, scientists and presidents considered geoengineering to\u00a0<a title=\"stop a new ice age\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2012\/04\/top-scientists-government-agencies-and-publications-have-for-over-100-years-feared-an-ice-age.html\">stop a new\u00a0<strong><em>iceage<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and create\u00a0<em><strong>more<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0warming.<\/p>\n<p>On April 28, 1975, Newsweek wrote an article stating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects. They concede that some of the more spectacular solutions proposed, such as\u00a0<strong>melting the Arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers<\/strong>, might create problems far greater than those they solve. But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies.
