Such changes have also been worsening environmental collapse, social dislocation and the human condition.<\/p>\n<p>The recent joint report \u2013 by the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipes-food.org\/\">IPES-Food<\/a>) and the ETC Action Group on Erosion, Technology and Concentration \u2013 is ominous, to say the least.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipes-food.org\/_img\/upload\/files\/LFMExecSummaryEN.pdf\">A Long Food Movement<\/a>,\u201d principally authored by Pat Mooney with a team including IPES-Food Director Nick Jacobs, analyses how food systems are likely to evolve over the next quarter century with technological and other changes.<\/p>\n<p>The report notes that hi-tech data processing and asset management corporations have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grain.org\/en\/article\/6595-digital-control-how-big-tech-moves-into-food-and-farming-and-what-it-means\">joined established agribusinesses<\/a>\u00a0in reshaping world food supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>If\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.counterpunch.org\/2021\/04\/21\/dystopian-vision-for-agrifood-must-not-succeed\/\">current trends continue<\/a>, the food system will be increasingly controlled by large transnational corporations (TNCs) at the expense of billions of farmers and consumers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Davos\u2019 IR4.0 Not Benign<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Davos World Economic Forum\u2019s (WEF) much touted \u201cFourth Industrial Revolution\u201d (IR4.0), promoting digitization, is transforming food systems, accelerating concentration in corporate hands.<\/p>\n<p>New apps enable better tracking across supply chains, while \u201cprecision farming\u201d now includes using drones to spray pesticides on targeted crops, reducing inputs and, potentially, farming costs.
