{"id":57378,"date":"2021-04-03T09:48:03","date_gmt":"2021-04-03T14:48:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=57378"},"modified":"2021-04-03T09:48:03","modified_gmt":"2021-04-03T14:48:03","slug":"nord-stream-2-operator-warns-warships-and-planes-threaten-the-russia-germany-pipeline-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=57378","title":{"rendered":"Nord Stream 2 Operator Warns Warships and Planes Threaten the Russia-Germany Pipeline Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2021\/04\/01\/nord-stream-2-operator-warns-warships-and-planes-threaten-the-russia-germany-pipeline-project\/\">Nord Stream 2 Operator Warns Warships and Planes Threaten the Russia-Germany Pipeline Project<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span class=\"pagesub\">The US is trying to prevent the project from being completed through sanctions and pressure on Germany.<\/span><\/strong><\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>A senior official from Nord Stream 2 AG, the project company leading the Nord Stream 2 Russia to Germany natural gas pipeline project,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/519857-warships-submarines-nord-stream\/\">has reported an uptick in \u201cprovocative\u201d activity<\/a>\u00a0from warships and planes in the area where the pipeline is being built.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHigher activity of naval vessels, airplanes and helicopters and civilian vessels of foreign states is observed in the work area after restarted construction of the offshore segment of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, whose actions are often clearly provocative,\u201d said Nord Stream AG official Andrei Minin,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/\">according to the Russian news agency\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/\"><em>TASS<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Minin said a 1.5-mile safety zone is established around the construction area where vessels are not supposed to enter. \u201cNevertheless, naval vessels of foreign countries are constantly registered near service ships performing work,\u201d he said, adding that a Polish antisubmarine warfare\u00a0airplane is \u201cregularly flying around the work area at a small height and closely to the pipelay vessel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minin said in one provocation, an unidentified submarine was above surface within one mile of the pipeclay vessel Fortuna, a ship that was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/usa-nordstream-sanctions\/u-s-imposes-sanctions-on-russian-vessel-helping-to-build-nord-stream-2-pipeline-idUSW1N2IU013\">hit with US sanctions on January 19th.<\/a>\u00a0Minin said the activity indicates \u201cobviously planned and prepared provocations.\u201d Besides warships and planes, he said fishing vessels have also come dangerously close to the construction area.<\/p>\n<p>The Nord Stream 2 pipeline has been in the crosshairs of the US for years, but despite sanctions and threats, Nord Stream AG reported on Thursday<a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/economy\/1272975\">\u00a0that the project is now 95 percent complete<\/a>.
