Journalists Attack the Powerless, Then Self-Victimize to Bar Criticisms of Themselves<\/a><\/h3>\n

Powerful media figures now invoke sexist and racist tropes to cast themselves as so fragile and marginalized that critiques of their work constitute bullying and assault.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The daily newspaper<\/strong>\u00a0USA Today<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is the\u00a0second-most circulated<\/a>\u00a0print newspaper in the United States \u2014 more than\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0and more than double\u00a0The Washington Post<\/em>. Only\u00a0The Wall Street Journal<\/em>\u00a0has higher circulation numbers.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the paper published and heavily promoted a\u00a0repellent article<\/a> complaining that \u201cdefendants accused in the\u00a0Capitol riot\u00a0Jan. 6\u00a0crowdfund\u00a0their legal fees online, using popular payment\u00a0processors and an\u00a0expanding network of fundraising platforms,\u00a0despite a crackdown\u00a0by tech companies.\u201d It provided a road map for snitching on how these private citizens \u2014 who are charged with serious felonies by the U.S. Justice Department but as of yet convicted of nothing \u2014 are engaged in \u201ca\u00a0game of\u00a0cat-and-mouse as they spring from one fundraising tool to another\u201d in order to avoid bans on their ability to raise desperately needed funds to pay their criminal lawyers to mount a vigorous defense.<\/p>\n

In other words, the only purpose of the article \u2014 headlined: \u201cInsurrection fundraiser: Capitol riot extremists, Trump supporters raise money for lawyer bills online\u201d \u2014 was to pressure and shame tech companies to do more to block these criminal defendants from being able to raise funds for their legal fees, and to tattle to tech companies by showing them what techniques these indigent defendants are using to raise money online.<\/p>\n
