Not because they\u2019re more flooded. But because their housing is worse,\u201d said Michael Brauer, a professor at the University of British Columbia\u2019s School of Population and Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>Maps commissioned as part of InvestigateWest\u2019s yearlong reporting project,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.invw.org\/getting-to-zero\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Getting to Zero: Decarbonizing Cascadia<\/a>, span Washington and Oregon and provide digital windows into vulnerabilities that are likely to worsen with climate change. Montana-based\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/headwaterseconomics.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Headwaters Economics<\/a>\u00a0created the interactive visualizations using a pair of powerful mapping tools that the community planning firm launched last year.<\/p>\n<p>The maps created for this project are an example of tools that are seeing growing use in Cascadia, where equity advocates, academic researchers and governments are teaming up to create new data-driven methods to identify and address unequal environmental risks.<\/p>\n<p>At UBC, Brauer also has developed various maps projecting the climate crisis\u2019s uneven effects on communities, ranging from wildfire smoke to flooding and ozone concentrations.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<div class=\"author-info__text\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Climate Crisis Discriminates.
