The news that the\u00a0FBI is investigating Hunter Biden<\/a>\u00a0on suspicion of money laundering and foreign influence peddling should come as no surprise, given that the New York Post\u00a0broke the story over two months ago<\/a>. Of course, when that publication released the incriminating evidence that was saved to a laptop owned by Hunter Biden, the story was\u00a0immediately censored on social media<\/a>. Of the few major media outlets that were willing to acknowledge the existence of the story, virtually all of them\u00a0did so<\/a>\u00a0only to emphasize<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0the reporting was \u201cbaseless\u201d nonsense<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe story could not have been more obviously fake if it had been wearing dollar-store spectacles and attached plastic mustache.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When pressed on the matter by President Trump in a debate, Joe Biden\u00a0boasted<\/a>\u00a0that five former heads of the CIA said that the story was \u201ca bunch of garbage.\u201d A couple of days earlier, dozens of former intelligence officials had\u00a0signed a statement<\/a>\u00a0that asserted the news had\u00a0all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation<\/a>: \u201cWe want to emphasize that we do not know if the emails, provided to the New York Post by President Trump\u2019s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, are genuine or not and that we do not have evidence of Russian involvement,\u201d the statement read, \u201cjust that our experience makes us deeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role in this case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bush administration speechwriter and Atlantic\u00a0editor David Frum\u00a0claimed on Twitter<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cThe story could not have been more obviously fake if it had been wearing dollar-store spectacles and attached plastic mustache.\u201d Weeks after the FBI investigation of Hunter Biden was confirmed, Wikipedia still labels\u00a0their entry on the matter<\/a>\u00a0as a \u201cconspiracy theory.\u201d Thus, in spite of\u00a0emails,<\/a>\u00a0photographs<\/a>, and\u00a0video-recorded evidence<\/a>\u00a0to the contrary, any claim that the Bidens did\u00a0anything<\/i>\u00a0improper<\/i>\u00a0(let alone \u201cwrong\u201d or \u201cillegal\u201d) was\u00a0deemed \u201cbaseless.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n
