Crop shortages\/failures in one part of the world impact all markets now.<\/p>\n<p>For example,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.agri-pulse.com\/articles\/15021-china-already-buying-next-years-us-soybean-crop\">soybean supply is tightening<\/a>\u00a0as bad weather in South America and increased buying by China are hitting at a time when global stocks are already low.<\/p>\n<p>As the world population grows, climate instability continues, and more countries are able to economically compete for resources, experts foresee future demand that may prove overwhelming vs supply:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/what-if-several-of-the-worlds-biggest-food-crops-failed-at-the-same-time-74017\"><strong>What if several of the world\u2019s biggest food crops failed at the same\u00a0time?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the past several decades, many of the world\u2019s major breadbaskets have experienced shocks \u2013 events that caused<strong>\u00a0large, rapid drops in food production<\/strong>. For example, regional droughts and heat waves in the Ukraine and Russia in 2007 and then again in 2009 damaged wheat crops and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ers.usda.gov\/amber-waves\/2011\/september\/commodity-price-spike\/\">caused global wheat prices to spike<\/a>\u00a0by substantial amounts in both years. In 2012 heat and drought in the United States slashed national corn, soybean and other crop yields by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.wace.2015.10.004\">up to 27 percent<\/a>. And\u00a0<strong>yields of important food crops are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.annualreviews.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1146\/annurev.environ.041008.093740\">low and stagnating<\/a>\u00a0in many countries<\/strong>\u00a0due to factors including plant diseases, poor soil quality, poor management practices and damage from air pollution.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time,\u00a0<strong>many experts assert that world food production\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1073\/pnas.1116437108\">may have to double by 2050<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to feed a growing population and satisfy rising demand for meat, poultry and dairy products in developing countries.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Running Out Of Soybeans?
