With Biden’s New Threats, the Russia Discourse is More Reckless and Dangerous Than Ever<\/a><\/h3>\n

The U.S. media demands inflammatory claims be accepted with no evidence, while hacking behavior routinely engaged in by the U.S. is depicted as aberrational.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

To justify Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 loss<\/strong>\u00a0to Donald Trump, leading Democrats and their key media allies for years competed with one another to depict what they called \u201cRussia\u2019s interference in our elections\u201d in the most apocalyptic terms possible. They fanatically rejected the view of the Russian Federation repeatedly expressed by President Obama \u2014 that it is a\u00a0weak regional power<\/a>\u00a0with an economy smaller than Italy\u2019s capable of only threatening its neighbors but not the U.S. \u2014 and instead cast Moscow as a grave, even existential, threat to U.S. democracy, with its actions tantamount to the worst security breaches in U.S. history.<\/p>\n

This post-2016 mania culminated with prominent liberal politicians and journalists (as well as John McCain<\/a>) declaring Russia\u2019s activities surrounding the 2016 to be an \u201cact of war\u201d which, many of them insisted, was\u00a0comparable to Pearl Harbor and the 9\/11 attack<\/a> \u2014 the two most traumatic attacks in modern U.S. history which both spawned years of savage and destructive war, among other things.<\/p>\n

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)\u00a0repeatedly demanded<\/a>\u00a0that Russia\u2019s 2016 \u201cinterference\u201d be treated as \u201can act of war.\u201d Hillary Clinton\u00a0described<\/a> Russian hacking as \u201ca cyber 9\/11.\u201d And here is Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) on MSNBC in early February, 2018, pronouncing Russia \u201ca hostile foreign power\u201d whose 2016 meddling was the \u201cequivalent\u201d of Pearl Harbor, \u201cvery much on par\u201d with the \u201cseriousness\u201d of the 1941 attack in Hawaii that helped prompt four years of U.S. involvement in a world war.<\/p>\n
