The post is based on a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3583949\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">26-page academic paper<\/a>\u00a0on digital payment methods that have been used broadly, the current market structure of digital payment methods, the data-gathering that occurs, versus cash payments that preserve privacy \u2013 and versus the \u201cdigital dollar\u201d now being worked on.<\/p>\n<p>Each time a digital payment takes place, the companies involved gather voluminous amounts of data and hang on to it because it gives them a competitive advantage in selling more goods or services to this particular consumer.
