As usual, it was in part because \u201cAmerican officials said.\u201d There was not a whiff of skepticism about this claim despite the fact that \u201ca senior American official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, declined to confirm the names of the victims\u201d and \u201ca\u00a0C.I.A. spokesman declined to comment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u00a0<em>NYT<\/em>\u00a0article did cite what it called \u201ca member of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula\u201d (AQAP), who\u00a0provided the names of the three victims, one of whom was \u201cMohammed Toiman al-Jahmi, a Yemeni teenager whose father and brother were previously killed in American drone strikes.\u201d The article added\u00a0that \u201cthe Qaeda member did not know Mr. Jahmi\u2019s age but said he was a member of the terrorist group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, as\u00a0<em>the Guardian\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2015\/feb\/10\/drones-dream-yemeni-teenager-mohammed-tuaiman-death-cia-strike?CMP=share_btn_tw\">reported today<\/a>, \u201cMr. Jahmi\u2019s age\u201d was 13 on the day the American drone ended his life.\u00a0Just months earlier, the Yemeni teenager\u00a0told that paper that \u201che lived in constant fear of the \u2018death machines\u2019 in the sky that had already killed his father and brother.\u201d It was 2011 when \u201can unmanned combat drone killed his father and teenage brother as they were out herding the family\u2019s camels.\u201d In the strike two weeks ago, Mohammed was killed along with his brother-in-law and a third man.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE U.S. MEDIA AND THE 13-YEAR-OLD YEMENI BOY BURNED TO DEATH LAST MONTH BY A U.S. DRONE On January 26,\u00a0the New York Times\u00a0claimed\u00a0that \u201ca CIA\u00a0drone strike in Yemen. . . .\u00a0killed three suspected Qaeda fighters on Monday.\u201d How did they know the identity of the dead?
