Everyone wants to think the store shelves are just a few cargo ships away from being refilled. People want to believe that once 2020 is over, life will return to \u201cnormal\u201d and that we\u2019re just having a really bad year.<\/p>\n<p>But someone pointed out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorganicprepper.com\/venezuela-is-out-of-food-heres-what-an-economic-collapse-really-looks-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an article I published four and a half years ago<\/a>\u00a0and when you look at the things which happened there and compare them to our situation, you may notice some uncanny similarities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s how Venezuela ran out of food.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In February of 2016, I wrote about what an economic collapse really looks like, using Venezuela as an illustration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Venezuela:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"kbGnoyd2\">\n<div id=\"ld-5291-9918\">The article begins when prepping began to be frowned upon by the Venezuelan government.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>In 2013, many began to suspect that the\u00a0outlook for Venezuela was grim\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorganicprepper.com\/could-prepping-become-illegal-here-too-venezuelan-govt-to-detain-hoarders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">when prepping became illegal<\/a>. \u00a0The Attorney General of Venezuela,\u00a0Luisa Ortega D\u00edaz, called on prosecutors to target people who are \u201choarding\u201d basic staples with serious sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly thereafter, grocery stores<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorganicprepper.com\/venezuela-enforces-fingerprint-registry-to-buy-groceries-what-to-do-before-rationing-starts-in-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0instituted a fingerprint registry to purchase food and supplies<\/a>. Families had to register and were allotted a certain amount of supplies to prevent \u201choarding.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theorganicprepper.com\/venezuela-is-out-of-food-heres-what-an-economic-collapse-really-looks-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">source<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The United States:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Early in 2020, supplies began to be difficult to find due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the potential of a lockdown. When folks couldn\u2019t find basics like toilet paper, fingers immediately began to point at \u201cpreppers\u201d and \u201choarders.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The word \u201choarding\u201d is being repeatedly used throughout news reports. They\u2019re already working to paint preppers as bad and selfish people. They\u2019re already vilifying those who hurry out to fill any gaps in their supplies.
