Self-Censorship by Journalists<\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\">Initially, there is tremendous self-censorship by journalists.<\/p>\n<p>A survey by the Pew Research Center and the\u00a0<em>Columbia Journalism Review<\/em>\u00a0in 2000\u00a0<a title=\"found\" href=\"http:\/\/www.people-press.org\/2000\/04\/30\/self-censorship-how-often-and-why\/\" target=\"_blank\">found<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Self-censorship is commonplace in the news media today<\/strong>\u00a0\u2026. About one-quarter of the local and national journalists say they have purposely avoided newsworthy stories, while nearly as many acknowledge they have softened the tone of stories to benefit the interests of their news organizations.
