BBC quoted&nbsp;<em>Sydney Morning Herald<\/em>&nbsp;saying, \u201cNo allegations had been proven.\u201d&nbsp;<em>The New York Times<\/em>, which rarely reports on Australia, ran a staff-written story, writes Joe Lauria.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A<\/strong>ustralian Prime Minister Scott Morrison held a somber press conference on Friday to announce that the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asio.gov.au\/\">ASIO<\/a>) had conducted a raid on a sitting member of the New South Wales parliament all because, so far, he\u2019d said favorable things about China and had traveled to the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Murdoch-owned&nbsp;<em>Australian<\/em>&nbsp;newspaper&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/news\/federal-police-raid-labor-mp-shaoquett-moselmanes-home-in-china-links-probe\/news-story\/9d9669d9c07d484e1e59ad448b1f6a68?utm_source=TheAustralian&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_campaign=Editorial&amp;utm_content=TABreakingNews&amp;net_sub_id=311202432&amp;type=curated&amp;position=1&amp;overallPos=1&amp;utm_source=TheAustralian&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_campaign=TA_BREAKING_CUR_01&amp;utm_content=311202432\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;that the office and Sydney home of NSW Labor MP Shaoquett Moselmane had been raided because he \u201chas repeatedly praised Beijing, even describing Chinese President Xi Jingping\u2019s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as \u2019emphatic\u2019 and \u2018decisive.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moslemane was portrayed as an \u201cextremely serious\u201d threat because he had written about China: \u201cFailure to contain the epidemic could mean thousands if not hundreds of thousands of lives would be lost. The combined phenomenal effort of the state and the people in the fight to contain the virus was breathtaking.\u201d&nbsp; &nbsp;The MP was also deemed a threat because, as&nbsp;<em>The Australian<\/em>&nbsp;reported:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cIn April, Mr Moselmane resigned as Upper House assistant president after being caught on camera again praising President Xi\u2019s handling of the virus, even as concerns arose that China had underplayed the severity of the crisis.<\/p><p>He has also said China needed to \u2018force a change to the rules and create a new world order\u2019.
