{"id":5331,"date":"2015-02-06T06:32:36","date_gmt":"2015-02-06T11:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5331"},"modified":"2015-02-06T06:32:36","modified_gmt":"2015-02-06T11:32:36","slug":"greece-exposes-the-global-economys-achilles-heel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5331","title":{"rendered":"Greece Exposes The Global Economy&#8217;s Achilles Heel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.peakprosperity.com\/blog\/91704\/greece-exposes-global-economys-achilles-heel\" target=\"_blank\">Greece Exposes The Global Economy&#8217;s Achilles Heel<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"article-lede\">\n<div class=\"field field-type-text field-field-lede\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item odd\"><strong>Countries that can&#8217;t repay their debts &#8212; won&#8217;t<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The new Greek political party, known as Syriza, the Coalition of the Radical Left, has done the unthinkable: they&#8217;ve dared to speak the truth.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, the truth is perfectly captured by the blunt assessment by the new Greek finance minister,\u00a0Yanis Varoufakis,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeit.de\/wirtschaft\/2015-02\/yanis-varoufakis-greece-finance-minister-eng\" target=\"_blank\">who recently declared<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;I&#8217;m the finance minister of a bankrupt country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Such honest assessments are not supposed to be uttered in politics, no matter how true they may be. And so, as you can imagine, the machinery of the defenders of the status quo is in quite a lather over the whole affair. And it&#8217;s doing everything it can to minimize and marginalize the new Greek government.<\/p>\n<p>One editorial in the\u00a0<em>Financial Times<\/em>\u00a0summed up the establishment view quite well, I thought, putting its contempt for those who dare to simply state what is true right on the table:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Athens plots a daring escape from the troika<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Feb 2, 2015<\/p>\n<p>Syriza\u00a0is as radical as any party to take power within the eurozone. Hardly any of Greece\u2019s new cabinet have experience of government; predictably, its first week was studded with chaotic interventions, including a\u00a0clumsy blunder\u00a0into EU-Russian relations.
