{"id":5275,"date":"2015-02-05T06:32:54","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T11:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5275"},"modified":"2015-02-05T06:32:54","modified_gmt":"2015-02-05T11:32:54","slug":"the-lesson-of-greece-only-collapse-makes-real-change-possible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5275","title":{"rendered":"The Lesson of Greece: Only Collapse Makes Real Change Possible"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oftwominds.com\/blogfeb15\/collapse-change2-15.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><b>The Lesson of Greece: Only Collapse Makes Real Change Possible<\/b><\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><i>When the illusion that the Status Quo can fulfill all its promises to everybody dies, the Status Quo starts the terminal slide to effective collapse.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Of the many lessons we can learn from Greece&#8217;s difficult path to rejection of debt-serfdom, the most important is perhaps the most obvious:<\/b>\u00a0no real change is possible until the Status Quo can no longer fulfill its promises, i.e. it effectively collapses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The collapse of the Status Quo has two distinct features:<\/b>\u00a0the process is highly variable, and the process affects the social classes in different ways.<\/p>\n<p><b>The process of collapse is neither sudden nor smooth.<\/b>\u00a0Things do not necessarily cease to function overnight; rather, the decline to\u00a0<i>effective collapse<\/i>operates much like energy states in physics: systems decay and then drop to a lower energy level, where they are stable until further decay causes the next drop to an even lower level.<\/p>\n<p><b>Pension payments provide a ready example.<\/b>\u00a0The pension payment is reduced, and the recipient tightens his\/her belt and gets by.
