{"id":5251,"date":"2015-02-04T06:28:59","date_gmt":"2015-02-04T11:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5251"},"modified":"2015-02-04T06:28:59","modified_gmt":"2015-02-04T11:28:59","slug":"california-regulators-allowed-oil-industry-to-drill-hundreds-of-wastewater-injection-wells-into-aquifers-with-drinkable-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5251","title":{"rendered":"California Regulators Allowed Oil Industry To Drill Hundreds Of Wastewater Injection Wells Into Aquifers With Drinkable Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2015\/02\/03\/california-regulators-allowed-hundreds-oil-industry-wastewater-injection-wells-drilled-aquifers-drinkable-water\" target=\"_blank\">California Regulators Allowed Oil Industry To Drill Hundreds Of Wastewater Injection Wells Into Aquifers With Drinkable Water<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">The fallout from the ongoing review of California\u2019s deeply flawed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.conservation.ca.gov\/dog\/general_information\/Pages\/UndergroundInjectionControl%28UIC%29.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Underground Injection Control program<\/a>\u00a0continues as new documents reveal that state regulators are investigating more than 500 injection wells for potentially dumping oil industry wastewater into aquifers protected under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act as well as state law.<\/p>\n<p>Last July, the\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">U.S.<\/span>\u00a0Environmental Protection Agency (<span class=\"caps\">EPA<\/span>) ordered an<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2014\/07\/21\/california-orders-emergency-shutdown-fracking-wastewater-injection-sites-over-fears-contaminated-aquifers\" target=\"_blank\">emergency shutdown of 11 wastewater injection wells<\/a>\u00a0in California.
