{"id":52356,"date":"2020-04-10T07:12:21","date_gmt":"2020-04-10T12:12:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=52356"},"modified":"2020-04-10T07:12:25","modified_gmt":"2020-04-10T12:12:25","slug":"52356","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=52356","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UK Police Force Threatens to Search Shopping Baskets to Catch \u2018Lockdown\u2019 Violators<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Forced to backtrack after public backlash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.summit.news\/2020\/04\/100420police.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A police force in the UK threatened to start searching people\u2019s shopping baskets in order to catch coronavirus lockdown violators, but later had to backtrack following a public backlash.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Northamptonshire Police chief constable Nick Adderley prompted outrage after he appeared in a video to warn people who were buying unessential items at grocery stores that their purchases may be scrutinized by the authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will not at this stage be starting to marshal supermarkets and checking the items in baskets and trolleys to see whether it\u2019s a legitimate, necessary item but again be under no illusion, if people do not heed the warnings and the pleas that I\u2019m making today, we will start to do that,\u201d said Adderley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PaulEmbery\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/profile_images\/1230247075784384513\/sOBEUVX0_normal.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Northamptonshire Police is among the worst performers in the country for bringing charges after cases of burglary.
