{"id":5212,"date":"2015-02-03T07:24:44","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T12:24:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5212"},"modified":"2015-02-03T07:24:44","modified_gmt":"2015-02-03T12:24:44","slug":"australian-dollar-skids-to-six-year-low-after-rba-shock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5212","title":{"rendered":"Australian dollar skids to six-year low after RBA shock"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/02\/03\/us-markets-forex-idUSKBN0L62BL20150203\" target=\"_blank\">Australian dollar skids to six-year low after RBA shock<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>(Reuters) &#8211; The Australian and New Zealand dollars weakened further in early trade in Europe on Tuesday after a sell-off following the Reserve Bank of Australia&#8217;s surprise decision to cut interest rates.<\/p>\n<p>The outlook for both Antipodean\u00a0<a class=\"vglnk\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1svSxuh\" rel=\"nofollow\">currencies<\/a>\u00a0has worsened in recent weeks with concerns about growth generating expectations of generally looser monetary policy, but the RBA&#8217;s decision still came as a shock to many.<\/p>\n<p>Another burst lower as Europe came on line brought the Aussie&#8217;s losses on the day to more than 2 percent. It hit an almost 6-year low of $0.7635 while the kiwi fell 1.5 percent to $0.7185, its lowest since early 2011.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Its a big move and I think any bounce should be sold into,&#8221; said Graham Davidson, a spot trader with National\u00a0Australia\u00a0Bank in London.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Generally when the RBA move, they tend to cut a handful of times.
