How many recognize that this pandemic\u2014or some other shock to our interconnected and brittle global systems\u2014could trigger a massive \u201cphase change,\u201d and utterly remake the world as we know it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I spoke with investigative journalist and systems thinker Nafeez Ahmed about these critical questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ef-XDFlRZM4\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nafeez and I discuss frameworks for understanding how the pandemic relates to the larger, systemic environmental, energy, economic, and political challenges we face\u2014including Thomas Homer-Dixon\u2019s concept of \u201cSynchronous Failure,\u201d Joseph Tainter\u2019s \u201cCollapse of Complex Societies,\u201d C.S.
