{"id":5138,"date":"2015-02-01T10:28:43","date_gmt":"2015-02-01T15:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5138"},"modified":"2015-02-01T10:28:43","modified_gmt":"2015-02-01T15:28:43","slug":"fracking-failure-frackers-in-pennsylvania-violate-health-and-environmental-regulations-on-a-daily-basis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=5138","title":{"rendered":"Fracking Failure: Frackers In Pennsylvania Violate Health And Environmental Regulations On A Daily Basis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2015\/01\/31\/frackers-pennsylvania-violate-health-and-safety-regulations-daily-basis\" target=\"_blank\">Fracking Failure: Frackers In Pennsylvania Violate Health And Environmental Regulations On A Daily Basis<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">From the American Petroleum Institute\u2019s<a href=\"http:\/\/www.api.org\/policy-and-issues\/policy-items\/hf\/what-is-fracking-and-unconventional-oil-and-natural-gas-development\" target=\"_blank\">claim<\/a>\u00a0that fracking is \u201csafely unlocking vast\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">U.S.<\/span>\u00a0reserves of oil and natural gas\u201d to Chris\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/desmog.uk\/2014\/11\/07\/frack-master-joins-uk-debate-shale-gas-after-losing-texas-town-fracking-ban\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cFrack Master\u201d<\/a>\u00a0Faulkner himself<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/climate\/2014\/06\/19\/3450973\/ceo-says-fracking-is-safe\/\" target=\"_blank\">insisting<\/a>\u00a0\u201cfracking isn\u2019t contaminating anything,\u201d the oil and gas industry constantly tells us that fracking can be done safely, despite plenty of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/fracking-the-future\/\" target=\"_blank\">evidence to the contrary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But just to be sure the public understands how seriously they considered public health, a group of oil and gas companies fracking in Pennsylvania formed the Center for Sustainable Shale Development in 2013. According to its website,\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">CSSD<\/span>\u00a0is dedicated to \u201cthe development of rigorous performance standards for sustainable shale development and a commitment to continuous improvement to ensure safe and environmentally responsible development of our abundant shale resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRigorous performance standards for sustainable shale development\u201d certainly sounds great.
