Premier John Horgan&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/lng-pipeline-horgan-british-columbia-1.5425745\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tells the public<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cthe rule of law\u201d demands the Coastal GasLink pipeline go ahead. Permits are in place, and the courts have approved construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thetyee.ca\/News\/2020\/01\/15\/Wetsuweten-Supporters-Not-Backing-Down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opposition<\/a>&nbsp;of Wet\u2019suwet\u2019en hereditary chiefs is not important to Horgan, as he points to 20 First Nations that have signed agreements to allow the pipeline and negotiated benefits. The five clans who have not agreed don\u2019t seem to count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is this a scorecard of how many First Nations say yes compared to those who say no? Is that how we measure rights and title?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are we not in a new era of reconciliation? A new decade? The decade of the enactment of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) Act in this province?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What would I expect from the premier in this new era, in this particular situation when he needs credibility with First Nations if his commitment to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/development\/desa\/indigenouspeoples\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2018\/11\/UNDRIP_E_web.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNDRIP<\/a>&nbsp;is to be taken seriously?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would expect the premier to look back on past decisions and ensure they were made in the spirit of UNDRIP \u2014 including approval of the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
