In fact quite the contrary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the US\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.usni.org\/2020\/01\/03\/uss-bataan-marines-26th-meu-heading-to-middle-east-amid-tensions-with-iran\">Naval Institute<\/a>, amid rising tensions with Iran, the US Navy is scrapping an exercise with Morocco as it redirects the amphibious assault ship USS\u00a0<em>Bataan<\/em>\u00a0(LHD-5) and embarked 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit with roughly 2,000 marines on board to the Middle East, a defense official confirmed to USNI News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ELINTNews\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/profile_images\/1150226671796203521\/fQ7-nIj-_normal.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/UPDATE?src=hash\">#UPDATE<\/a>: 2,000 US Marines en route to the Middle East onboard USS Bataan Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, USS New York San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock &amp; USS Oak Hill Harper\u2019s Ferry-class dock landing ship<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4,000 US troops from 82nd Airborne also being\/been deployed <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gxYG8qcDNi\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/lucasfoxnews\/status\/1214217158726705157\u00a0\u2026<\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LucasFoxNews\/status\/1214217158726705157\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>\u2714<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the 26th MEU and&nbsp;<em>Bataan<\/em>&nbsp;crew were slated to train with members of the Moroccan military as part of the joint Exercise African Sea Lion. Indeed, the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group had just arrived off the coast of Morocco this week before its new tasking, according to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.usni.org\/2019\/12\/30\/usni-news-fleet-and-marine-tracker-dec-30-2019\">USNI Fleet tracker<\/a>. The ARG deployed quietly from the East Coast in December.
