It\u2019s all there, seamless, borderless, perfect: collecting license-plate data with photos that show who went where with whom\u00a0to do what, checking out our \u201csecure\u201d data in the Cloud,\u00a0collecting phone \u201cmetadata\u201d that is not supposed to reveal personal details\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe kill people based on metadata,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/blogs\/headlines\/2014\/05\/ex-nsa-chief-we-kill-people-based-on-metadata\/\" target=\"_blank\">explained<\/a>\u00a0helpfully Gen. Michael Hayden,\u00a0former\u00a0head of the NSA. To make us Americans feel better, he added, \u201cBut that\u2019s not what we do with\u00a0<em>this<\/em>\u00a0metadata.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the corporate side, consumer surveillance technologies and methods, dressed up in appealing terms like\u00a0Ad Tech, are being perfected, and an entire startup bubble has\u00a0sprung up to compete with the\u00a0Big Ones that already master this.<\/p>\n<p>For years, and at every level, laws have been passed in the US to give Big Brother\u00a0more and more tools to track us in everything we do.
