The floating plant, the academic lomonosov will provide power for a port town and for oil rigs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>And now, as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thebarentsobserver.com\/en\/industry-and-energy\/2019\/12\/christmas-tree-first-get-electricity-arctic-floating-nuclear-power-plant\">The Barents Observer reports<\/a>&nbsp;that&nbsp;<strong>at 11 am Moscow Times on December 19th, the \u201cAkademik Lomonosov\u201d delivered its first electricity to the grid in Pevek, Arctic Russia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/christmas_tree_pevek.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thebarentsobserver.com\/en\/industry-and-energy\/2019\/12\/christmas-tree-first-get-electricity-arctic-floating-nuclear-power-plant\">As Thomas Nilsen reports<\/a>,&nbsp;<strong>symbolically, given the season, the town\u2019s Christmas tree was first to be lighted with electricity produced by the two reactors on board the plant that is moored in the port.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional to the town of Pevek, the grid includes the Chaun-Bilibino junction in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/rosatom.ru\/journalist\/news\/plavuchaya-atomnaya-teploelektrostantsiya-vydala-pervuyu-elektroenergiyu-v-set-chukotki\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rosatom<\/a>&nbsp;informs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>\u201cToday a historic event occurred, the first connection of the \u201cgenerators of \u201cAkademik Lomonosov\u201d floating nuclear heat- and electricity nuclear power plant were connected to the grid,\u201d<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;Rosenergoatom Director General Andrey Petrov said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He said&nbsp;<strong>Pevek is now the new energy capital of the region<\/strong>, \u201ca stronghold for the development of western Chukotka and a key link for the Northern Sea Route.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/lomonosov_pevek.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/economics\/floating-nuclear-power-plants-are-ready-shape-global-energy-market\">we concluded previously<\/a>,&nbsp;<strong>the launch of the first ever floating nuclear power plant has become an important engineering breakthrough that will impact the energy sphere on a global scale<\/strong>.
