{"id":49549,"date":"2019-11-12T09:20:16","date_gmt":"2019-11-12T14:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=49549"},"modified":"2019-11-12T09:20:20","modified_gmt":"2019-11-12T14:20:20","slug":"bolivia-adds-to-the-ranks-of-global-political-chaos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=49549","title":{"rendered":"Bolivia Adds to the Ranks of Global Political Chaos"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/libertyblitzkrieg.com\/2019\/11\/11\/bolivia-adds-to-the-ranks-of-global-political-chaos\/\">Bolivia Adds to the Ranks of Global Political Chaos<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/libertyblitzkrieg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Screen-Shot-2019-11-11-at-1.57.06-PM.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60437\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Two days before Bolivian president Evo Morales was pushed out by the country\u2019s military, Mark Weisbot of the Center for Economic and Policy Research penned a warning about what was happening, and what might unfold, in a&nbsp;<em>Nation<\/em>&nbsp;article titled,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/bolivia-election-oas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Trump Administration Is Undercutting Democracy in Bolivia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>Multilateral organizations like the Organization of American States (OAS) have a certain perceived impartiality because they are, in theory, controlled by a diverse group of nations. But sometimes a great power can wield a disproportionate influence.&nbsp;<strong>It could theoretically be a coincidence that both the Trump administration and the OAS have tried\u2014without offering any evidence\u2014to discredit Bolivia\u2019s national election in the past couple of weeks. But it\u2019s more likely that this dangerous, ugly, and destabilizing operation is being pushed by Washington.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This \u201cdestabilizing operation\u201d came to a head yesterday when Morales resigned under pressure from the military amidst a wave of protests and violence. The situation is Bolivia is complicated, but one thing you can be sure of is anything you hear or read in U.S. mass media will be a heaping pile of lies and propaganda. Fortunately, I came across a really helpful thread courtesy of Kevin Cashman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kevinmcashman\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/profile_images\/586600890552954880\/rU_rjsHG_normal.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kevinmcashman\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kevinmcashman\/status\/1193703918624108544\"><\/a>THREAD: If you haven&#8217;t been following the situation in Bolivia here&#8217;s a rundown. Briefly, the OAS, an emboldened opposition (which clearly is not the most popular party in the country), the media, and the Trump admin ousted a successful leftist leader. For the longer story:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Morales was barred by the constitution from running for another term, but he attempted to override this with a referendum which he lost 51% to 49%.
