Until 2000, the reason was primarily because more Americans moved up the income ladder. But since then, the reason has shifted: There is a greater share of households on the lower rungs of the economic ladder.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 From yesterday\u2019s\u00a0New York Times article:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/01\/26\/business\/economy\/middle-class-shrinks-further-as-more-fall-out-instead-of-climbing-up.html?partner=rss&amp;emc=rss&amp;_r=0\">Middle Class Shrinks Further as More Fall Out Instead of Climbing Up<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>At a packed session in Davos, former hedge fund director Robert Johnson revealed that worried hedge fund managers were already planning their escapes. \u201cI know hedge fund managers all over the world who are buying airstrips and farms in places like New Zealand because they think they need a getaway,\u201d he said.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 From the Guardian\u2019s article:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/public-leaders-network\/2015\/jan\/23\/nervous-super-rich-planning-escapes-davos-2015\">As Inequality Soars, the Nervous Super Rich are Already Planning Their Escapes<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So the other day, President Barack Obama once again demonstrated his contempt for the American public by using his State of the Union address to pejoratively blurt out meaningless phrases such as<strong>\u201cbut\u00a0tonight, we turn the page\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and:\u00a0<strong>\u201cThe verdict is clear. Middle-class economics works. Expanding opportunity works. And these policies will continue to work, as long as politics don\u2019t get in the way.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sorry, but why are \u201cwe turning the page\u201d tonight? Weren\u2019t you elected over six years ago?
