Getting Real About Green Energy: An honest analysis of what it CAN’T promise<\/a> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I want to be optimistic about the future. I really do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there\u2019s virtually no chance of the world transitioning gently to an alternative energy-powered future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These Are The \u2018Good Old Days\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m often asked where I stand on wind, solar and other alternative energy sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My answer is: I love them. But they\u2019re incapable of enabling our society to smoothly slip over to powering itself by other means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\u2019re not going to \u201csave us\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people are convinced otherwise. If we can just fight off the evil oil companies, get our act together, and install a national alternative energy system infrastructure, we\u2019ll be just fine.  Meaning that we\u201dll be able to continue to live as we do today, but powered fully by clean renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s just not going to happen. At least, not without a lot of painful disruption and sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top three reasons why are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Math<\/li>
  2. Human behavior<\/li>
  3. Time, scale, & cost<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    I walk through the detail below. I\u2019m doing so to debunk the magical thinking behind the current \u201cGreen Revolution\u201d because I fear it offers a false promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Look, I\u2019m a huge fan of renewable energy. And I\u2019m 1,000% in favor of weaning the world off of its toxic addiction to fossil fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But we have to be eyes wide open about our future prospects. Deluding ourselves with \u201cfeel good\u201d but unrealistic expectations about green energy will result in the same sort of poor decisions, malinvestment, and crushed dreams as fossil-based system has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As we constantly repeat here at Peak Prosperity: Energy is everything.  <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Without as much available, the future is going to be exceptionally difficult compared to the present. Which is why I call the time we\u2019re living in now The Good Old Days<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
