Entire ecosystems are collapsing,\u201d Thunberg&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/09\/23\/763452863\/transcript-greta-thunbergs-speech-at-the-u-n-climate-action-summit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a>&nbsp;the&nbsp;UN&nbsp;summit. \u201cWe are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic&nbsp;growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just blocks away, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/oil-and-gas-climate-initiative\">Oil and Gas Climate Initiative<\/a>&nbsp;(OGCI), whose members include oil giants like ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron, Saudi Aramco, and&nbsp;BP, was meeting with representatives from large environmental organizations, talking about ways to moderately reduce greenhouse gas pollution while continuing business as&nbsp;usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;OGCI&nbsp;had planned a busy schedule for organizations like the Environmental Defense Fund and the National Wildlife Federation, according to a draft planning document from the event obtained by&nbsp;DeSmog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The draft, dated August 21, shows that a \u201cbreakfast and portfolio review\u201d would start the day, hosted by the&nbsp;CEO&nbsp;of oil giant&nbsp;BP, Bob Dudley, and Pratima Rangarajan,&nbsp;CEO&nbsp;of the&nbsp;OGCI&nbsp;Climate&nbsp;Investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full day of sessions, preceded by an invitation-only forum the night before, would include\u00a0CEOs of global oil majors speaking alongside Mark Brownstein, senior vice president of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF);\u00a0Jason Bordoff, director of Columbia University&#8217;s Center on Global Energy Policy;\u00a0and Collin O\u2019Mara, head of the National Wildlife \u201cFoundation,\u201d the draft agenda said (O\u2019Mara heads the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nwf.org\/about-us\/leadership\/collin-omara\" target=\"_blank\">National Wildlife Federation<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u2026click on the above link to read the rest of the article\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oil Industry Set Agenda During Climate Summit Meeting with Big Greens Last week, as climate activist Greta Thunberg addressed the United Nations&nbsp;Climate Action Summit, invited leaders from major environmental groups spent their day listening to the leaders of fossil fuel companies discuss how they want to respond to the climate&nbsp;crisis.
