Houthis Say It’s Not Over – Saudi Oil “Still Within Range”; Iraq Denies Its Territory Used<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While US officials were quick out of the gate to allege an Iranian attack on Saudi Aramco facilities launched from Iraq early Saturday, a theory which the WSJ said<\/a> was focus of an ongoing US-Saudi investigation, Iraq’s government issued a firm denial on Sunday<\/strong>, which followed Iran’s own denial that condemned Washington’s “maximum lies”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saying there was\u00a0no link to Iraqi soil\u00a0<\/a>and the attack which caused oil prices to spike to record levels the moment markets opened,\u00a0initially surging to\u00a0as much as 18% before retreating after President Trump authorized use of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to “keep the markets well-supplied,” the Iraqi government\u00a0further vowed to\u00a0<\/a>\u201cpunish anyone who intended to use Iraq as a launchpad for attacks in the region.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite Yemen’s Houthis themselves claiming responsibility for the precision strike using ten drones, unleashing explosions that rocked<\/a> Abqaiq facility and the Khurais field, US officials have long eyed Iraq’s Shia paramilitary forces also as bad actors which Iran deploys as proxies from Iraqi soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior reports suggest Iran has indeed stationed ballistic missiles<\/a> on Iraqi soil within the past year or so, within easy targeting range of key Saudi oil installations, as well as even Tel Aviv. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But crucially the Houthis have defiantly announced\u00a0it’s not over<\/strong><\/em>: “The rebel group said its weapons could\u00a0reach anywhere in Saudi Arabia<\/strong>. Saturday\u2019s strikes were carried out by aircraft equipped with a new type of engine, the Houthi rebel group said,”\u00a0Bloomberg<\/a>\u00a0reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
