Forget 1984, We\u2019re Facing a Brave New World <\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I see quite frequently, people warning that the US is becoming an \u2018Orwellian nightmare,\u2019 or that we\u2019re living in a country that\u2019s fast becoming a new 1984. I think they\u2019re wrong. It\u2019s worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We here in the US look at what China\u2019s doing as if they\u2019re on a reality TV show. Seeing what they\u2019re doing with surveillance and their social credit system as if we\u2019re watching some kind of dystopian entertainment series fashioned after the George Orwell book, 1984<\/a>. Our burgeoning dystopia isn\u2019t as overtly dystopian as Orwell warned against, and that\u2019s the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you haven\u2019t read 1984, you really should. I\u2019m not really a fan of the storyline since it\u2019s pretty crappy but the message still comes through, and it\u2019ll give you an idea of why people reference it so much when talking about governments gone awry. Then, get yourself a copy of Aldous Huxley\u2019s Brave New World<\/a> and you\u2019ll start to see the problem. The story\u2019s a little better, but not much. The message is more apropos, however.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1984 was about a government that would ban information and rule with a leather boot on your throat, whereas Brave New World was about a system that would slowly seep into our life like a drug. In other words, Orwell warned us about a dystopia that we wouldn\u2019t be able to stop, Huxley warned us about a dystopia that we would beg not to stop. The US isn\u2019t becoming Orwellian, it\u2019s becoming Huxleyan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social credit systems are coming.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2013, China started its social credit system<\/a>, coordinated by the Central Comprehensively Deepening Reforms Commission. What they\u2019re planning to do by next year is to have a comprehensive credit system under one roof that will cover pretty much everything in the lives of its citizens. It\u2019s already well on its way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
